1. Our Commitment to Privacy

YAKMESH is built on the principle of Data Minimization. As a security-focused project, we collect the least amount of information possible to provide our services.

2. Information We Collect

Website Visitors

  • Technical Logs: Our web server may log standard metadata (IP addresses, browser type) for security and maintenance. This data is purged every 30 days.
  • No Cookies: We do not use tracking cookies or analytics services.

Newsletter/Beta Signups

  • Voluntary Data: If you sign up for our newsletter or developer beta, we collect your email address.
  • Purpose: To send you updates about YAKMESH releases and security advisories.

YAKMESH Node Operators

  • Public Keys: If you run a YAKMESH node, your public key (network identity) is visible to other nodes in the mesh. This is a functional requirement of peer-to-peer networking.
  • No Central Collection: YAKMESH does not operate central servers that collect node data. Your node communicates directly with peers.

3. Decentralized Data

YAKMESH is designed as a decentralized peer-to-peer network:

  • No Central Database: We do not maintain a central database of user information.
  • Peer-to-Peer: Data synchronization occurs directly between nodes you connect to.
  • Your Control: You control what data your node stores and shares.

4. Data Security

  • Post-Quantum Cryptography: YAKMESH uses ML-DSA-65 (NIST FIPS 204) lattice-based signatures to protect node identities against quantum computing threats.
  • No Plaintext Storage: Cryptographic keys are generated locally on your machine and never transmitted.

5. Your Rights (Texas TDPSA)

Under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, you have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal data we hold about you
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Opt-out of any "sale" of data (Note: YAKMESH does not sell user data)

We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals sent by your browser.

6. Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect payment information (npm package is free)
  • We do not use third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, etc.)
  • We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties
  • We do not track your usage of the YAKMESH software
